Todd Hunter has a great comment about leadership which also applies to life:
“What most people are looking for, and what we should shoot for, is the kind of confidence that is produced by people who know what is going on around them, can calmly explain it to others and who know what to do about it: like a music teacher who can asses the situation and show someone how to play it correctly; a paramedic who doesn’t panic, but summons her training and experience to serve others; a competent spiritual director, etc.”
This is the kind of person I dream of becoming.
Journeying Home 
Up till now I always shot at being the person who has no clue what’s happening around me; the oblivious passer by. Aw, Peaceful, blissful ignorance.
I am just recently figuring out that having confidence in your abilities to handle a situation is not the same as having pride (with a capital P) I grew up being told that having Pride was a sin. I have seen confident people acting arrogant, egotistical and very proud of themselves. But, that is not really how a confident person has to act. You can be confident and still be humble. You can be (dare I say it?) proud without being Full of yourself. Maybe I will start trying to be more confident and competent. As long as it is not in some way a sin. 🙂
